Book Review | Bossman | Vi Keeland

Rating: 3 out of 5

Genre: Romance, Contemporary

People who should read this: If you want a quick steamy read with a hate to love relationship.

It’s books like these that make me so happy the library exists. Like it’s good and all, I enjoyed reading it, but I won't be screaming about it from the rooftops or, honestly, reading it again. All of these points must be met with the highest rating for me to buy a book. I already own too many. But books like Bossman are perfect for slapping on your Kindle when you’re going on a trip. Which is exactly why I read Bossman to begin with, besides the fact that my friend recommended it.

Funny story though… I didn’t actually read it on the trip. I read it when we got back.

Bossman has what I need in a romance book - steam, sex, and easy. Easy as in the read, not the characters. The steam portion was a little weird. I think there were only a handful of sex scenes in it. There was a lot more fade to black than I anticipated. I’m not really a fan of that when I’m reading a romance book. The point is for it to be rated R. I don’t need the PG-13 stuff. I don’t mind if it takes a bit to get there but once we get there, let’s stay there. Still, that wasn’t enough of a reason to fully hate the book.

My real issue was with the characters. Keeland tried to make them fully fleshed out with backgrounds and sad stories. That’s all fine. No problems to report there. Where I struggled was actually liking Reese in the first place. Her opening is relatable. I’m sure a large portion of us have all been on that bad date, or feared that we’re going to be on one. If not, then you’re a lucky person. However, the way Chase painted her behavior, started it all off on the wrong foot. And there was just something about her air that made her read as more stuck up than I think she was meant to be. I couldn’t get behind her or the relationship. Chase only saved himself because he went after what he wanted. He didn’t compromise one bit… well, until that weird ending.

I will just take that carefully laid out transition.

Part 6….

Ha ha ha. Okay.

Break the book into three chunks and you could have three different books. We have the opening phase where Chase feels like one person. The middle, Reese works for the man. Chase feels like a different person again. Probably my favorite person. He was actually likeable here. And then the third part. Chase is a jerk/stalker. As I look back at the book, I really can’t see where they connect. It’s all just a jumbled mess in my head.

And can we just go back to how much I don’t like Reese.

All of this and the book still got three stars from me. Because I liked the middle. It was the only part where I didn’t hate them and it also had the most sex… Correlation??? Maybe. Truth be told, technically the book was decent and I didn’t hate every moment that I read it.

My friend is going to hate me for this review. She really liked it. I’m starting to get used to never agreeing with anyone when it comes to books. Or now animated movies with my best friend.

This is becoming a long review and I really don’t feel like I’ve said much.

What else is there…..? Well the beginning really drew me in.

Maybe I’ll stop there.

I hope you’re all safe during this time and that you’re finding some great books to read.

Happy Reading
